- 1 cup of strawberries contains only 50 calories and 8 grams of sugar?
- Strawberries are high in potassium (helps control blood pressure and fights stroke) and fiber (helps control weight and relieves constipation)?
- only 1 cup of strawberries will give you 160% of your daily needed Vitamin C? Bring on a healthy immune system!
- Strawberries are known to improve healthy blood flow? Can anyone say…”hello better sex life?” Hellz yeah.
I was recently invited to the “Paint Chicago Red with California Strawberries” event at The Chopping Block in Chicago. Who knew you could make so many different sweet, savory and alcoholic dishes with delicious strawberries? Strawberry Gazpacho, Strawberry and Goat Cheese Pizza (my FAV), Strawberry Shortcake Sliders and Strawberry Basil Balsamic Mojitos – oh, the yumminess. Anything with the title of “Strawberry Shortcake Slider” is just asking to be eaten first…right? …RIGHT?
While sampling ALL of the beautiful offerings, we were given plentiful information from nutritionist, David Grotto and George Chavez (California Strawberry Grower.)During their friendly question and answer period, I asked David, “Is there a nutritional difference between conventional strawberries and organically grown strawberries?” Though he seemed to advocate eating organic when physically and financially possible, he stated there have been studies done resulting in no concrete evidence that one berry is more nutritional than the other. In other words…organic or non-organic, just eat your antioxidant filled berries!
And because I know your mouth is still watering at the words, STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE SLIDERS…here’s the recipe for you.
