Foodie Pen Pals is a fun program started by Lindsey at The Lean Green Bean. Basically, it’s a “snail mail” program where you get to send a complete stranger a box of fun food goodies. All the while, another person is sending you one! Of course, there are some other rules so be sure to read about them and sign up here. There will be no exchange program in December, as Lindsey has organized a collection for Hurricane Sandy victims instead. (#FPP4Sandy)
This month, my foodie pen pal package was sent by Nicky, who blogs at Our Little Family Adventure. With her mix of organic, local and Mexican finds, she could not have sent a better box that matches our family’s tastes.
“Hi Toni, I hope you like your box of goodies. I found several Tex-Mex items, a few from local sources. Since I’m in Oklahoma, I wanted to send you something Native American in origin. The blue cornmeal originated with Native Americans. You can use it just like traditional cornmeal. I was thinking cornbread with chili or corn tortillas for pork tacos. the green chili sauce/marinade is great with pork roast or mixed with eggs for breakfast. Enjoy Everything!”
So far, we have devoured the roasted chipotle salsa and enjoyed a warm pot of chili with the local mix. I’m itching to use the green chili marinade in some breakfast burritos and trying to save the blue cornmeal for something really special!
Nicky, thanks again for the time and effort you put in to making the perfect foodie pen pal box for me. Much love!
