I may or may not have developed quite the love affair with organic chocolate.
Back in 2011, when I seriously switched to leading an organic lifestyle, I started searching for organic/natural alternatives for food items that my family enjoyed. Aside from common things like fruits, vegetables and breads, I knew we would still
need want our candy (candy read as: gummy worms and chocolate.) As I skimmed across the shelves, unimpressed with many of the gourmet chocolate bars, there sat Green & Black’s organic chocolate…not just one bar of plain ole’ chocolate, but lots of different flavors! You would have thought I had just found Wonka’s golden ticket. I quickly scooped up as many bars as I had coupons and hurried home to have the family taste them. The love affair had begun.
Later that Fall, Chicago Gourmet. Guess what company just HAPPENED to have a booth there…and guess WHO happened to be invited to participate in a dessert making contest?
Oh yes…’twas me…(& the hubs)
And, guess who HAPPENED to win said contest?
Oh yes…’twas me. I won a lovely Green & Black’s cookbook, along with bragging rights for, pretty much, the rest of my life. Hey, everyone needs something to brag about…including my Facebook “Moment of the Week”, which you can find over there on the right. I’ll spare you the minute details, but still fun none the less.
Fast forward to later in 2012…you can imagine my excitement when I was invited to the unveiling of Green & Black’s new flavor for 2013. I, along with a small group of Chicago area food bloggers, gathered at Fab Cakes for an evening of appetizers, a tasting party of chocolate creations and wine & alcohol pairings done by Chef Jill Houk (@ChefJYH).
At the end of end of the evening, the new Green & Black’s flavor discovery was revealed. I introduce to you…Spiced Chili. Oh no, this isn’t your typical bar of chili flavored dark chocolate. Spiced chili contains strong flavors of chili pepper, juniper berry, star anise, ginger, clove and pink peppercorn. Jump outside your box for a minute and start thinking spiced chili mole, short ribs with chocolate sauce, empanadas or kicked up brownies. Yeah…now you get it. Spiced Chili isn’t just for eating by itself, but a great flavor component in some of your favorite recipes. I happen to be one of the first to receive a bar of Spiced Chili so I’ll (hopefully) be sharing a recipe with you soon!
Wait, what? You’re telling me you have never tried any of Green & Black’s organic chocolate? Well, here’s your chance. A winner, chosen on January 11th, will receive FIVE assorted bars of Green & Black’s organic chocolate. Considering each bar costs between $3 and $4 each, this is a pretty good win! There are five ways to enter…be sure to complete them all. Good luck my fellow chocoholics.
